Dominos Pizza Delivers Online Experience

Dominos Pizza Confirmation Tracker

I just love ordering from Dominos these days. They have what I would almost call an immersive online ordering experience with Live Preview of your pizza as you build it. The one thing I don't care for is having to click "Price your order" to find out the cost, especially when it fails, but overall it is great.

But what really takes it over the top for me is the confirmation pizza tracker. I don't usually sit there and watch it, but it's there if I want to look. They not only give you the time and steps in an appropriate heat-thermometer bar, but they tell you (real or not) the person's name who is working on the order.

I don't know if this idea is their original or borrowed, but it really comes off well and sees the ordering experience through all the way to delivery. And in my experience, the food is always piping hot when it gets to my door. End to end. Nice.

This is in stark contrast to my last order from our local place. An hour after my order was placed, I had to call back and they had no idea where the driver even was... Sure, the fancy Domino's site doesn't stop the driver from taking forever, but at least you know what's going on.

Maybe step 5 could be a mashup showing the driver's real-time location via Google Maps. :)

The last time they tried to deliver, I got a message that the pizza was here, yet the delivery guy got lost (I live in a BIG white building, I guess you can't spot 24 stories from the street), and arrived 15 minutes later.

I don't much like most of the pizza sites, but I don't know how you can easily handle multiple pizzas with all kinds of options. For me, it's easier telling some minimum wage kid what I want.
